Local lad Joe Lee, World squash player 29, and sponsored by Luxfords will play as a “wildcard” at the Allum British Open in Hull playing against top seed Nick Matthew in the first round. Joe is replacing another local lad, Tom Richards, who had to pull out due to a calf injury and has been practicing on the glass court at St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club.

Lee played Matthew in the quarter-finals of the British National Championship in February, losing in straight games in 39 minutes, but he took the triple world champion to four games in the first round of the Tournament of Champions last year.

“Playing Nick is obviously a tough draw, but I have competed well against him in the past and I think I can do better this time,” Lee said. “I had some good patches against him in the Nationals, but I was unable to sustain them for long enough, so I will be looking to do that next week.”

“I feel that I have had a good season and I’m really motivated to finish it with a good British Open.”

Indeed, he has, winning two PSA Tour events—the Nash Cup in Canada last September and the Oregon Open in the USA in February—to reach the highest world ranking of his career this month.

On Saturday 19th November, Walton-on-Thames town centre played host to the annual Christmas Festival of Light, with Outnumbered star, Tyger Drew-Honey, switching on the lights.

A spectacular lantern procession, which included a giant Santa and impressive ‘Snow Queen’, kicked off at 5.30pm, finishing at the “The Heart” and culminating in the Christmas lights being switched on at 6pm.

This is the third year we have assisted in making this procession the wonderful occasion that it is for the local businesses and people of Walton.

Through the year, the large illuminated sculptures are stored at our facility on the Brooklands Business Park. It is there, in the lead up to the event, that local artist Donagh Curwen puts the finishing touches to her wonderful creations and prepares them for the procession.

These delicate pieces are then carefully loaded on to two of our “air ride” vehicles and transported to the marshalling area for the procession.

Having unloaded them equally carefully, they are distributed amongst the children and helpers as Sam Thompson of the RC Sheriff Trust lines the whole procession up ready for the off!

Once they are returned to our care, the trucks are reloaded and transported back to our warehouse for safe keeping.

The British Association of Removers (BAR) is the recognised trade association for our industry, striving to ensure its members uphold their commitment to providing a professional service to customers.

In 2009, BAR introduced a Domestic Remover of the Year Competition, which Luxfords entered. The competition is overseen by an experienced and independent panel of judges including representatives from the Office of Fair Trading. Competition from other member companies was extremely strong, but Luxfords are proud to say that we were the first winners of this prestigious competition, awarded for continually providing professional excellence and outstanding customer service in the field of domestic removals.

Luxfords were also runners up in the 2010 Domestic Mover of the Year Competition and are proud to say that we are the only company in London and the South East area to hold both these certifications.

Luxfords recently entered the Government’s Train to Gain scheme and are both pleased and proud to say that all our Operational staff have successfully completed their NVQ Level II in Customer Care.
